A New Year’s resolution that ticks all the boxes - register for the YMCA Swimathon at the Acacia Ridge Leisure Centre and Redlands YMCA
Not-for-profit community organisation, the YMCA, is urging all Southside & Bayside locals to start the New Year with a health kick, spending more time with family and helping those less fortunate by registering in the YMCA Swimathon at the Acacia Ridge Leisure Centre and Redlands YMCA.
The YMCA Swimathon, the organisation’s first national fundraiser event, will take place at more than 100 Y-owned and managed pools across the country on Sunday 11 March, 2012, and is open to people of all ages and swimming abilities.
Signing up to the YMCA Swimathon, is not only a great way for people to meet their New Year’s health resolutions but to assist the Y in meeting its goal of helping a larger number of those in need live happier and healthier lives.
With the theme Dive In. Help Out, money raised from the event will help fund and expand YMCA benevolent programs in each participating pool’s local community.
YMCA of Brisbane, Group Manager, Michael Tsiamis, said registering in the YMCA Swimathon is the perfect New Year’s resolution for Australians in 2012.
“The money raised from the Swimathon will help the YMCA to enhance its charitable program offerings to help a larger number of those is need in the community and assist them to make positive changes to their lives,” Mr Tsiamis said.
“The Swimathon is also a great way to get families, friends and the wider community to come together and do something healthy and active.”
With the event less than three months away, January is the ideal time to start setting swimming and fundraising targets, as well as a realistic training schedule to help work off the festive season cheer.
Preparing for and participating in the Swimathon is also a great way to spend more time with family and, for some, learn vital swimming skills.
Registration is free, with each participant required to commit to a distance they wish to swim as well as a fundraising target depending on their age.
Acacia Ridge, Bayside and surrounding suburb locals can ensure they meet their participation and fundraising goals by following these simple tips:
- Set Swimathon fundraising goals now to allow enough time to enlist the support of family and friends.
- Work out a training schedule and include mini goals to help achieve overall Swimathon targets
- Take time to reflect on health and fundraising achievements, knowing participation will help those in need in the community and give them access to YMCA’s community services and programs.
